"A group of modern shopkeepers and their families are trading their way through one hundred years of history. They've set up shop in a 21st century town in a bid to make its residents fall in love with its high street once more. They are overseen by a Chamber of Commerce, led by Masterchef judge and greengrocer Gregg Wallace."
This week featured Leila from Ninas Hair Parlous demonstrating 1960s hairstyles.

"The Broken Hearts aka Nisha and Amber, both 25, play party tunes from the 1920s to the present day.
Our act is as much about the way we look as the music we play. We met while working at vintage shop, Beyond Retro, in Brick Lane, east London.
Our playsuits are from a line we designed with the London boutique Beyond the Valley and our tights are a collaboration with the hosiery designers Bebaroque. Not only are their designs beautiful, but they are two best friends and work together, like us.
Terry de Havilland made us some bespoke shoes with Broken Hearts on the soles in crystals, but today we are wearing Vivienne Westwood for Melissa heeled jelly shoes.
Our newest discoveries are Paperself fake eyelashes. They are laser-cut into patterns and look great on stage with bright Barry M lipstick. We get our Louise Brooks bobs cut in Nina's Hair Parlour in Alfie's Antique Market, London, which specialises in retro hairstyles.
Most of our bookings are for fashion parties. We have played for Vivienne Westwood, Selfridges and Turkish Vogue. Our best gig was on the roof of the Ritz in Moscow on Christmas Day. We took our boyfriends to that one."

Fleur Britten states: "There is a new mood on the hedonist scene, away from shiny, overdesigned venues to something more appropriate for the times. You could call it “austerity chic,” but do not confuse it with cheap...People enjoy spaces that show some personality and soul.” The shift means that aggressive design and unnecessary accouterments, like tricky lighting walls, are definitely out...Instead the look is deconstructed, un-glossed and a little bit messy. While the aesthetic may change from place to place, the components favor the use of salvaged and “preloved”materials.
To get the look in London — be it an antique mantelpiece or religious artifact — head to Westland, Lassco or Alfies Antiques Market."

“The 1950s and 1960s
The postwar period is becoming increasingly attractive in the eyes of the collector and prices have begun to move accordingly…One of the best indoor markets for collectables from this era is Alfies: a list of dealers and their websites can be found at alfiesantiques.com.
The 1970s and 1980s
The 1970s was until recently known as the “decade that style forgot”; woth the exception of the kipper tie, a massive reappraisal has been taking place and both the Seventies and Eighties are now yielding up their treasures Alfies is still a good place to look online…”
